2013 – A year in review
Welcome!
2013 was a transformational year for the credit union sector. The new Central Bank legislation introduced a series of complex governance and prudential requirements for individual credit unions, on top of the ongoing challenges of managing loan books and escalating costs.
Here at le cheile, we have also transformed the way we support credit unions as they try to deal with a number of critical issues at the same time:
Debit Cards:
We launched our new Visa debit card service on both sides of the Atlantic, in Ireland and in Canada, where we were honoured by the attendance of the Irish Ambassador to Canada, his Excellency Ray Basset.
Governance & Investments
Throughout the year le chéile hosted a number of very popular nationwide seminars on the new governance requirements and attractive investment opportunities. We are keen to try to meet the obvious demand for these seminars so we will continue to host these events in 2014. Please keep an eye on our website, Facebook, LinkedIn and on Twitter (@lecheilegroup) for an event near you.
In June of this year, I attended the WOCCU conference in Ottawa which was not only an eye-opener to the true magnitude of the credit union movement across the world, but also an education on the credit union sectors in places like the US, Canada and Australia.
The credit union sector requires strong leadership and vision as it continues to grow to meet the changing needs of individual communities. The potential for development is vast and we will continue to support credit unions with our exciting plans for 2014, including a range of new products and services and other initiatives.
Finally as 2013 is ushered out, I would like to wish you, your credit union and members a Happy Christmas on behalf of all the team at le chéile Group.
With best wishes
Catherine Daly,
Managing Director
